Pakistani Urdu literature offers a unique lens through which to examine the evolution of romantic relationships in a society balancing tradition, modernity, and Islamic values. This paper analyzes how short stories (afsanay) and novels depict love—ranging from idealized, spiritual unions to narratives of forbidden desire, social conflict, and psychological realism. By examining key works from progressive writers, feminist voices, and contemporary digital fiction, this study argues that Pakistani romantic storylines serve as a barometer for broader socio-cultural tensions, particularly regarding family honor, class, gender roles, and individual agency.
