While he is a celebrated classical guitarist, concert performer, and professor at the Madrid Royal Conservatory, he also holds a degree as a medical doctor from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina.

While "Vals Peruano" is frequently performed as a standalone piece, it is sometimes included in larger collections or albums of Cardoso's work. In some printed anthologies or scanned PDF booklets found in classical guitar archives, "Vals Peruano" may appear on page 13, or listed as the 13th piece in a collection of "12 American Preludes" or similar suites.

Unlike a strict classical Viennese waltz, the Peruvian Vals often has a subtle "swing" or lilt.
