AutoCAD 2017 introduced native support for high-density point clouds (up to 2 billion points) via the and improved 3D navigation performance using the Spatial Indexing Engine . Results show a 47% reduction in load time and a 62% improvement in interactive frame rate compared to AutoCAD 2016, at the cost of increased initial indexing time (≈8 seconds per 500M points). We also evaluate the new "Point Cloud Segmentation" via the POINTCLOUDCLIP command and compare reconstruction accuracy against manual surveying (±0.023m RMS). The paper concludes with best practices for point cloud management in AutoCAD 2017 civil engineering workflows.
