Ragnar secretly recruits his genius shipbuilder friend, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), to construct a new generation of longships capable of navigating the open western ocean. Joined by his fierce shield-maiden wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and his envious brother Rollo (Clive Standen), Ragnar sails west, successfully discovering and raiding the Kingdom of Northumbria in Anglo-Saxon England.

Ragnar fights Baltic raiders and experiences visions of Odin on the battlefield.
