Months later, Victoria, who has found some refuge, goes into a difficult labor. She is alone on the streets when she gives birth to a baby girl, whom she names María. The episode opens in the past. We see the beautiful and humble working as a maid in the mansion of the powerful Iturbide family. The next morning, Juan Pablo departs to dedicate his life to the church, leaving Victoria heartbroken. In a cruel twist, his mother Bernarda suspects the truth and confronts Victoria. When Bernarda discovers the young maid is pregnant, she cruelly throws her out into the street, penniless and alone.
