The plot is deceptively simple: Natha (Omkar Das Manikpuri) and Budhia (Raghubir Yadav), two debt-ridden farmers in the fictional village of Peepli, stand to lose their land to a bank loan. Upon learning of a government compensation scheme for the families of farmers who commit suicide, they decide that Natha must die to save the family. However, once a local journalist leaks the story, the event spirals into a national media circus.
